Description 1838 was the year Walter Thomson with wife Jane arrived in Australia and established a winemaking tradition. Grown in the Clare Valley the richness of fruit in its natural state is protected and nurtured through minimal intervention in the winery. Seasoned house-selected French oak is used in the maturation of this smooth well-balanced Merlot. Well-structured palate of blackberries and cherries filling the mouth with full-bodied velvety layered tannins. It pairs well with roasted pork loin with garlic paste pan-seared duck breast with blueberry sauce.
The Clare Valley is a popular wine region, home to about 50 wineries and renowned for its cool climate wines, notably Riesling. Some of its most well known wineries include Taylors Wines, Annie’s Lane, Grosset Wines, Jim Barry Wines and Kilikanoon which has won James Halliday’s Winery of the Year in years gone by.
